    Hi,

I am a student teacher and I have to implement a project across an entire primary school for a major project this semester. We are situated in inner-city Melbourne, Australia. Lots of high-density housing, etc. I have one semester to do something with the school that not only benefits/educates the students but also improves the environment. I thought growing oyster mushrooms from coffee would be a great idea (they are surrounded by cafes and Asian restaurants). Does anyone have any suggestions? Looking at the videos in the tutorial, how many bags of coffee/straw/lime substrate could I get out of 2kg of mushrooms spawn (Oyster or similar)?

    Thanks in advance,

    Pete

    Hi Pete,

what a great idea and I am sure they kids will love it too! To increase your chances of success and avoid disappointed children I would advice not droppin the spawn levels too low. Somewhere in the range of 15%-20% would mean that your total substrate for 2 kg spawn would equal 10 – 13 kg, this should yield around 3 kg of mushrooms for you. I am not sure how big your cultivation bags are but this should help you with the planning. Let us know how you get on!

    Best wishes,

    Eric
