2016 Course Update: Preview

A sneak peak of what's to come.........

We've been working hard to create new videos, downloadable files and lessons for the course - based on the feedback you gave us.

The full update will go live inside the course area at the beginning of Novemeber 2016.

In the meantime, here's a little preview from 3 of the new bits of content:

1: The Substrate Mix

One of the biggest changes we've made is to simplify the ideal growing mix to just 3 ingredients:

  • coffee grounds
  • pasteurised straw (20% of coffee weight)
  • spawn (10% of coffee weight)

We've had great success growing like this. It's also much easier not having to add agricultural lime into the mix - this is currently taught in the course but is something that can be difficult to source.

The good news is that it is not necessary to add in order to have good success. We've trialled it with thousands of grow bags and can see no clear benefit to adding it.

Just coffee, straw & spawn. Much easier.

A lot of people asked for downloadable reference sheets - so here's one that summarises the whole growing process.

2: Creating The Fruiting Conditions

Another thing that lots of people asked for was some videos showing how to create simple fruiting conditions at home.

There are lots of ways to do this, but the simplest two are these:

How to Make A Fruiting Tent

3: Growing In Buckets

For some people, sourcing professional mushroom cultivation bags can be difficult or expensive. Others just want to take a more DIY approach to their growing.

This technique of growing in buckets can be a great way to grow larger quantities of mushrooms at home, using containers that you can make yourself.

Full Course Update Will Go Live In November 2016

Over the next few weeks we'll be finishing off the new course lessons and incorporating the features above - along with some more videos, time-lapse footage and growing tips.

The update should all be finished and live on the site in November, so hang tight and get in touch if you need any help in the meantime.
