Hey everyone,
Since it took me quite a while during the last couple of weeks to gather all the supplies needed for a small scale regular production, I thought I share my list with you, especially the new users of this forum.
Of course, there is the obvious:
– filter bags
– grain spawn
– coffee grounds
– (shredded) straw
But there is still a much longer list of things you might find useful when starting to grow. The first time I wanted to inoculate and fill a couple of growing bags, I kept on running through the house collecting stuff I had not thought I would need.
Some items you might just have around but I prefer to have an extra set of those just for growing mushrooms (also necessary if you want to start growing somewhere else than in hour own home).
– bucket(s) with cover to collect the coffee in
– 2-3 buckets (one of them with some holes drilled in the bottom) to soak and drain the straw
– dish soap (biodegradable if possible)
– gloves if you do not like coffee grounds under your fingernails
– pair of scissors to open the spawn bag
– container for the weighed spawn portion
– (kitchen) scale
– cover for working place (I use a plastic table cloth since I work on our dinner table and am not sure how that surface would react to alcohol)
– alcohol disinfectant (+ spray bottle)
– mixing container
– stapler to seal growing bags and leftover spawn
– marker to write on the filterbags (date of inoculation)
– small broom and dustpan
– incubation container
– 2 thermometers (one for the incubation space and one for the fruiting space)
– heat source (if necessary) for the incubation space
– small greenhouse as fruiting space
– tub to place under the greenhouse (to catch any water drops)
– pond fogger
– small container for water and pond fogger
– journal and pen to record date of inoculation, spawn supply, strain used, temperature,…..
You might also need to bring water and a lamp if working outside of your home.
Feel free to add to this list, copy, share or print it!
Adam and Eric, feel free to repost this in a more visible place or add it to the course supplements if you think others might find it helpful.
