Dear Adam & Eric, Thanks a lot for the valuable information!

We are interested in start a project in Germany, but we still have lots of questions.

Regarding the growing space maybe can you show us some pictures of your installations?

According with your experience, what are the key elements that we should take in account to choose the place to grow the oyster mushrooms.

I am aware that this course don’t include the information how to set up a business, but maybe can you tell us little bit how did you start this business?  how much was your initial investment? or how much do you produce per week to have a sustainable business?

    Hope to hear from you,

    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer,

Good questions! We get asked this sort of thing alot and to be honest we struggle to have enough time to answer them properly. We’re making an in-depth course to go into this sort of detail, which will aim to be a complete resource for people like yourselves. It will answer these questions and a whole lot more and be somewhere you can keep going back to to learn as your project progresses.

For now, I would say that some important factors for choosing a grow space would be that it is somewhere you can make changes to (i.e. drill through walls to install fans and ducting), have electric and water supply, to be well insulated and easily accessible to bring in coffee and take out compost.

For our most recent growing setup we spent £15k, but this wasn’t neccessarily the cheapest way of doing things. Here’s a picture of inside the fruiting room:

Hope this helps a little for now.

    Best wishes,

    Adam

    Hello Adan,

Like Jennifer, I have the same financial concerns and now I wonder if you can help with a few questions:

    1. How many kilograms of substrate (cafe, spawn, straw and lime) is in bags of photos uploaded in the post above?

    2. And in general, how much is the production (kilograms of mushrooms) of each of those bags?

Thanks for this and for this great course!

    Hi Alejandro,

Those column bags usually weigh around 12kg in total and produce approximately 2.5kg of mushrooms over 2 crops (around 20% of the substrate weight).

Hope this helps. Best wishes, Adam
