Thanks very much for the new material, really helpful. A concern we have as we ramp up production is mold growth in the growing space due to high humidity. Black mold in buildings is a health hazard. Before we rent a space we want to know how to control or eliminate that hazard.

    Hi Rose,

black mould in the fruiting room can be hard to eliminate completely as it likes to grow in the same conditions as mushrooms. A couple of things you can do to make sure it doesn’t become a problem:

    • have good air circulation: black mould prospers most in stagnant and still air, so by having more airflow around the fruiting space this can reduce it alot. You can add a rotating fan inside the space or just make sure that any incoming air is moving equally around the space
    • clean the space regularly: we like to do a basic clean wiping floor surfaces once a week (or after harvest), and then a deeper clean once a month where we remove all bags from the space and wipe down all surfaces with a 10% bleach water solution.

    Hope this helps,

    Adam

Thanks for the quick response Adam. Glad to hear you’re aware of  the problem and have developed steps to keep it in check.
